Over 1,500 AT suppliers and disability organisations mapped

31 January, 2019

SAFOD and country affiliate disability persons organizations (DPOs) have located and mapped over 1,500 assistive technology (AT) suppliers and disability service organisations in ten countries where the organization currently works in Southern Africa region.

Supplier include private, public and non-governmental organisations that provide a range of AT types such as mobility devices and vision aids..

More than half of the total listings on the app constituted disability organizations from South Africa only, thanks to the amazing partnership between SAFOD and the Uhambo Foundation who helped us with the majority of the South Africa enrtries from their own database.

Besides SAFOD officers and country admins entering data on the mobile application of website database, everyone else can do the same as long they download and install the AT-Info-Map app or have access to the web database. In particular, companies that supply/sell Assistive Technology (AT) products to Government, hospitals, persons with disabilities, and whoever may need them - especially those in Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe - have the opportunity to use our platforms to market their products.

We don't charge a penny for marketing their AT products because it is in our interest, first and foremost, as a disability advocacy organization to ensure that persons with disabilities have access to AT products. By helping them market their AT products to a wide range of stakeholders such as Government, private hospitals, NGOs, schools, their business will grow, and more people will get the AT they need. In this context, it is a win-win undertaking.
